Beauty

Here’s a little secret…I’m turning 40! OK, not in 10-days, but in a few more years. In the meantime, I’ve started to notice these little lines setting in around my lips. When I look in the mirror, I see the beginning signs of bags under my eyes, and when I raise my eyebrow to give my kids “The Look”, I see all kinds of scariness happening all over my forehead, brow line and corners of my eyes. I’m aging! And, I’m having a hard time doing it gracefully.

I’m not yet keen to the botox sessions some of my girlfriends have added to their calendars. I’m a scaredy-cat, and thoroughly convinced there is some product(s) out there that will resurface my face so that I don’t have to give in to becoming a botox junkie too soon. In fact, I’ve made a pact with myself to work as hard as I can on the inside and outside for the next year. After 365-days, whatever is left over can then succumb to the plastic surgeon. Juicing, healthier diet, supplements, exercise, fasting, sleeping…you name it, it’s on my list of natural alternatives to try before turning 40.

algenist 10 day challenge

One of the regimens I’ve added is quarterly facials and daily exfoliating. When I was asked to take the “Make the Next 10 Days More Beautiful Challenge” with a hot new product, Algenist Concentrated Reconstructing Serum, I figured I would give it a chance to see just how well it does what it says it’s going to. Here is what I read about the Algenist line that convinced me to give it a go:

It started out as a renewable energy project—and turned into an unexpected anti-aging discovery. Algenist comes from a team of biotechnology scientists based in San Francisco.

While researching microalgae-based renewable energy solutions, the team uncovered Alguronic Acid, a patented, powerful compound responsible for regenerating and protecting the microalgae cell. When scientifically tested, it also demonstrated significant anti-aging properties, increasing elastin synthesis by up to 32%* and cellular regeneration by up to 55%**.

Rooted in the breakthrough discovery of Alguronic Acid, Algenist focuses on the ability of targeted, bioactive ingredients to deliver visible anti-aging results to the skin.

The result? Breakthrough skincare for younger-looking skin at any age.

Algenist products are:
• Suitable for all skin types
• Dermatologist tested
• Non-comedogenic
• Hypoallergenic

Algenist products are formulated without:
• Parabens
• Sulfates
• Synthetic dyes
• Phthalates
• GMOs
• Triclosan

Average result measured following an in vitro test with Alguronic Acid (0.1%*, 0.04%**)

Algensit 10 Day Challenge

What do you think? Will we look this good after 10 days?!

The Algenist line can be found in high-end beauty stores and on-line, but follow this link to Like the Algenist Facebook page and receive your own 10-day supply for free. No gimmicks or shady stuff, just the opportunity to experience for yourself, or right along with me. I’d love to see what you think and how it is working for you.

Thanks to Algenist for sponsoring today’s discussion!

Beyond the smoke and noise of the casino is a hidden gem, the Costa del Sur Spa and Salon, at the South Point Hotel, Casino & Spa. I have been told about their phenomenal services, treatments and over all ambiance, but I have to admit, I was a bit hesitant to explore on my own. An invitation from the Costa del Sur Spa and Salon to experience the Bright Skin Facial, which incorporates Eminence organic products, had me intrigued. Besides, who can refuse a day at the spa?

I booked my treatment for 10am, giving me plenty of time to enjoy the facilities and relax after a busy morning of school drop offs with my kids. I even offered to take all four to school so my husband could cat nap before work. Not even sure I said, “googd-bye” to the last kid as I sped off in pursuit of “Me Time” at the Costa del Sur Spa. Note- I did not transform that quickly…the beautiful, svelte, blonde model is not me! Photos are courtesy of South Point Hotel and Casino.

The South Point is centrally located at the almost southern point of Las Vegas Boulevard. Though most likely a bit easier for those living in the South part of the Valley, the I-15 offers easy access to the hotel. I always valet, for many reasons, but this time, mainly because I didn’t know where I was going. Easy enough, the spa is located directly at the back of the hotel, and hang a left. Once I passed the frantic energy of the slot machines and the blinking lights directing me to the movie theater and bowling alley, I came to a quieter space…a long corridor that began to lead me to my oasis. I passed the quaint little Barber Shop, the Salon, Fitness Center and onto the Spa. Greeted by a beautiful copper and stone sign welcoming me into the Costa del Sur Spa.

The Gaughan Family has always had a strong and respectable presence in the Las Vegas gaming arena. Impressively, they spared no expense with the Costa del Sur Spa. A serene escape, the 40,000 square foot spa houses 28 treatment rooms, steam, sauna, whirlpools and waterfall showers.

The Relaxation Area is well equipped with several options from The Republic of Tea, along with a Lavazza espresso, cappuccino, Americano, chai and hot chocolate maker. When I walked in, the Spa Attendant handed me a cushy robe, slippers and small container of Morrocan Oil Hair Treatment. After a brief explanation, I walked through the shower stalls, deciding which Bubbalina scent was calling my name. I chose the Pomegranate , washed my hair and body with the fragrant products, then followed the directions for the hydrating hair mask. With my hair slathered and capped, I grabbed a Lavazza capuccino, and headed for the steam and whirlpool. There was definitely not enough time before I whisked away to the treatment rooms for my Bright Skin facial.

The aesthetician was very knowledgable about the products and thorough with my skin. In addition to the organic line, Eminence, she also added products from the Skinceuticals line, which has been my choice in skin regiment for over 5 years now. This made me very happy, as I do not like to stray too much from regular routine. And, I loved how she customized the facial to meet my skins’ needs.

After a light scrub, extractions, facial massage, mask and hand massage, I was in a deep trance. A few light taps like rain drops on my face, and I felt refreshed and ready to conquer the rest of my day.

What the Gaga?!?! Born This Way Ball

28 Monday Jan 2013

OK all you Little Monsters…Lady Gaga is on tour again, and most likely coming to a city near you. I had the fortunate experience to attend the Born This Way Ball tour in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. It was amazing!

Just for the record, I’m not, by any means, one of Gaga’s Little Monsters, but I had no qualms with pumping my claws in the air to rock out to her dance trance music. So glad I went both nights because I definitely missed things the first time around that I caught the next night.

Many like to compare Gaga with Madonna, and even though I am a lifelong fan of Madge, I have to say, Lady G put on one heck of a show that really lends no comparison. Maybe it is the advantage Gaga has being famous in the social media age, maybe she just has it right with the culture connection and her groupies of Little Monsters, maybe it’s the fashion and costumes…but whatever it is, she’s got it. All ages were present in the arena. She spoke to her fans all night. “Las Vegas” was injected into her songs which got the crowd wild. And, both nights, she made a random cell phone call to an audience member and donated $5000 to a local charity (Love That!). Oh! And, she talked about her mom. Rock On, Gaga.

The set list was perfect! Encore was perfect! I sent a text out to my girlfriends who were planning on attending Saturday night’s show, “Wear comfortable shoes. You will not sit down all night.” It was like being at a Lady Gaga nightclub with live entertainment.

Lady Gaga Telephone

Yup- she’s totally controversial, and makes all kinds of statements all night long, whether it’s in her costumes, set, props, music or words. But, man, she knows how to connect with the audience. Her Monster Pit was full of look-a-likes and blinking head bands with big plastic bows. She was relating to them by talking about her time spent as a waitress and thanking everyone for saving their hard earned dollars to buy a ticket to her show. Another zinger from the night was when while singing “Telephone” a duet originally shared with Beyonce, she quipped, “And, yes, I’m singing this live,” then quickly added, “let’s all give Beyonce our support…stand up and SING!”.

Lady Gaga Las Vegas

OK, so we weren’t look a likes, but thought we looked pretty darn good in this photo!

I wasn’t sure I would have the energy to be at the show two nights in a row, but I couldn’t resist one more chance for the experience. It is like total stimulation of body and mind, and no matter my life choices or political opinions, I appreciated Lady Gaga for who she is and what she brought into my life at that moment. Go see her. DO IT!

RSMLV TIPS:

  • Check her website, find your city and book your tickets now!
  • Join in all the social media fun with #skypeball.
  • When you get to the concert, grab the #(hashtag) and text number for your chance to get a phone call from Lady G herself during the show, and she will donate to a local charity.
  • Just a reminder that the Monster Pit is on the floor…it’s General Admission and there are no seats. If you are like me and need to have personal space, consider buying an actual seat.
  • Bring a back up battery for your phone or camera so you can take pics all night long!
  • And, YES, wear comfy shoes!!
