How was Spring Break for you all? Fast, busy, long? Any of those descriptions ring a bell? Mine is summed up pretty much just like that! Which lead me to believe that my decision to put my kids in summer camp was the right one.

Summer Camp Las Vegas

Spring break was just long enough for me.

It’s a difficult choice to make when you are thinking about putting your kids in camp. I get that time and money, in addition to your child’s safety and entertainment value are top of the list when considering options for the summer. Since my oldest son turned 3, we’ve been putting him in camp at least 2 weeks every summer, my daughter, when she was 2. I am a total researcher, and we experimented with different camps in Las Vegas over the years, but I have to say, the one that got the best response out of my kids was the Summit Ridge Day Camp at Henderson International School.

Summit Ridge Day Camp

By now, I’m sure you’ve heard me talk over and over again about the Summit Ridge Day Camp, but truly, I am so impressed. Director, Lisa Beinstock, is super organized and passionate about providing an amazing experience for both the parents and the campers. The counselors have a strong enthusiasm to make sure the kids are having a great time,  and I have the confidence knowing my kids are in a secure, safe location, and the variety of activities keeps them interested. Everyday I picked my kids up from camp, they were exhausted, yet couldn’t wait to go back the next day! And, with a full day like that, it gives me time to get stuff done without the guilt of not entertaining them throughout the whole summer break.

Summit Ridge Camp Director, Lisa Beinstock, is popular with the campers!

My kids loved the fact that they could go swimming, make movies, put on a play, do yoga, and learn camp-style games like, Gaga (I have no idea what this is, but my kids love it!). This year though, they are going to be thrilled to learn about the new climbing wall and inflatable obstacle course. My son LOVES the TV show, Wipe-Out…this is going to be right up his ally!

In addition to the summer camp, sports enthusiasts entering 3rd grade and up have an option to attend the Sports Camp directed by former NBA basketball player, Jerome Williams, and ran by his JYD (Junk Yard Dog) Staff.

Lots of activities to play and skill sets to be learned.

To learn more about the instrumental activities directors, keep an eye out on my FaceBook page for their mini-bios and plans for summer time fun at Summit Ridge Day Camp.

This year’s camp will run from June 11th – August 3rd, and is accepting campers ages 4-12. You can still register on-line and get the Early Registration discount. A Summit Ridge Day Camp Alumni Open House will take place in May with opportunities to introduce new campers to the program.

Good times at Summit Ridge Day Camp!

If summer camp is something you are considering for your kiddos this summer, make sure to consider the Summit Ridge Day Camp before making your final decision.

Summit Ridge Day Camp is one of my social media clients. I am being compensated to promote their summer camp. All thoughts, opinions and experiences are my own. Seriously, my kids love this place!

Ah, yes…these photos were taken of me back in the day. Back when I had no kids. A full time job, a boyfriend (now husband) and nothing else to do but cook healthy meals and work out. Wow. That was only 12 years ago, and somehow it feels like it was 10,000 years ago. Four babies later, and my hot rocking bod is nothing like it used to be. My healthy meals now consist of black coffee for breakfast, lunch wherever I can grab it, and wine for dinner. It’s no wonder my physique and my energy levels are just all out of whack! Sitting in front of the computer most of the day, picking-up two 25-lb. babies and lugging around a shoulder bag that weighs more than me has also done some pretty ugly damage to my shoulders and back. Even after several years of working and two kids, I still was in pretty good shape. Part of my daily work routine at the company I worked for prior to the twins was to participate in group fitness classes 4-6 times a week. One can only imagine how much firmer my belly was and stronger my arms were. Now, I’m just a big bowl of mushy jelly.

Next week I will have to attend 5, yes 5, black-tie and cocktail events with my husband. I am so not looking forward to putting on some of these dresses. I, mean, I love to get dressed up and look amazing, but honestly, my figure has left me less than feeling amazing when I have to get dressed to go on the town. There’s always a big dreadful *sigh* when I start to think about the preparation it takes to cram myself into some Spanx and cross my fingers my over extended belly will appear to be somewhat slim and flat in the dress I have picked out. I have decided it’s got to be cheaper to be thinner! All these undergarments to do the job cost anywhere from $25-100, and that’s just for one! I find myself layering at times because I need more support in certain areas. When that happens, forget drinking anything all night long!

It is finally time for me to take a stand. I ran into a friend of mine, Adam Gentz, who is a certified personal trainer. We met many, many moons ago when he first moved to Las Vegas. In fact, he was my personal trainer before my wedding (like I needed one then?!). We have always kept in touch, and I knew he would do great things. He is a very friendly, educated and focused kind of guy. He listens to your goals because he wants you to get results. I remember him telling me several years ago about his dream to open his own fitness facility in Las Vegas. Two years ago he turned that dream into a reality and opened the Strength Center Las Vegas. Because he is such an amazing guy, he attracted the likes of Donny Osmond, who came to him for training during his stint on Dancing With The Stars. Donny, won, by the way, and Adam did, too. He knocked it out of the ballpark! Which made him realize he was ready to move onto the next phase, Strength Center Performance.

Strength Center Performance is all about the group training and fitness classes, covering all types of fitness activities like TRX, yoga, Body Pump and Kettle-bells, with some of the best instructors the Valley has to offer. The group area holds 15-2o people comfortably, has state of the art, latest equipment, and a kid’s area to make it even more convenient for mom’s trying to fit in a 60-minute workout into their daily routine.

I ran into Adam recently because he has been training my dad. We started talking about my fitness goals, and his goals with the Strength Center, and came up with a pretty sweet fitness challenge that he is letting me offer to my RockStarMomLV readers. Dig this…

Why

Adam said something interesting to me at our meeting the other day, when your body gets used to carrying around extra weight, it makes you crave things to help you maintain it. Which got me thinking that I know exactly what and how I should eat and exersizing, but since this babies, my lifestyle has become more sedentary, and my body is now craving that. I need to break out of my bad habits and re-teach myself those good habits I once had, not that long ago. It’s going to be a tough road, but I know once I get past the 30-day mark it will all be downhill from there. Maybe I will even be able to put on a 2-piece this summer! OK, well, maybe a tank-ini.

Why? Because I want to look like that one day without plastic surgery!

This is not about making you something you’re not. It’s not about turning you into something you don’t want to be. It’s about personal assessment. Personal goals. Finding a balance between nutrition, fitness and life. It’s about Re-inventing Yourself to live that life you want to create.

The value of participating in this challenge is estimated to be $1500 per person. I am being compensated by Strength Center Performance by means of being able to participate in this challenge.

Nathan Adelson Hospice | Las Vegas Community

My initial impression was that of fear and mortality. Then after I accepted that, I allowed myself to turn my thoughts towards what we were there for…to celebrate Las Vegas being home to one of the top hospice care facilities in the country.  In fact, during it’s fruition, it was one of only three facilities available in the United States, thanks to the compassion of Merv Adelson, son to Nathan Adelson, a Sunrise Hospital Administrator in the 1960-70s, who passed away from cancer a few decades ago.

At the ribbon cutting ceremony for the brand new, larger inpatient facility at the Mountain View Hospital, Merv relayed his personal experience about how his father, who suffered from cancer, did not die a dignified death. Not exactly what you want to chat about on a blog, but it is something our community should be grateful for. Because Merv held his father in the highest regard, and did not want others to experience what he had gone through, he set his sites on offering end-of-life care in a facility that would set the standard for those following its lead in the United States. The Nathan Adelson Hospice was founded and developed based on ideas sought out from similar concepts in England. It was the first of its kind, and is now considered an expert in its field, with many hospise care facilities from around the country reaching out to them for advice and direction.

Though at first my livelihood felt threatened to walk into such a place, as I started a self-guided tour, and listened to the enthusiastic employees, founders and supporters discuss the amenities and the comforts provided to those being admitted, and their loved ones, I felt a sense of gratitude knowing that if ever needed, this place of compassion would be there to serve, as it has served our community for over 30 years.

Again, as I have been touched so many times witnessing the strength of our Las Vegas community these last few months, I listened, teary-eyed as President and CEO, Carole Fisher, gave a touching presentation of the latest addition to the Nathan Adelson Hospice family as she talked about how her mother and grandmother did the interior decorating, and how her grandmother passed away this January, still deciding the layout of the furniture.  She spoke about how grateful she was that within the walls of not only her home, but also her place of work, her grandmother’s legacy lived on in the colors, art work and furniture throughout the hospice. Longtime supporters of the Las Vegas community, Irwin and Susan Molasky, spoke to their involvement in the hospice and why it was so important to them.
