Rent the Runway | Fashion

What did you do over Spring Break? Me? I attended four, yes, 4, cocktail attire events. Sounds crazy, I know, but throughout the year, I probably attend at least 4-5 cocktail attire events, not to mention the ones that are thrown in there last minute. It can be taxing, not only physically, but also to my wallet! Of course, I have to dress to impress, and I could never wear the same dress again. Oh, the horror.  I was stressing a little about creatively styling myself for these 4 events, when my friend over at The Trend Tribe suggested Rent The Runway.

Rent the What??! Yup, that’s right, the Runway. Two Harvard grads came up with the idea from a “closet full of clothes and nothing to wear,” added with a modest budget but a taste for the glam life. Rent the Runway offers women that fit the bill a chance to dress like a red carpet celeb or high society debutante without having to fork over our 401K or child’s college fund.

How it works:

Pop on over to Rent The Runway and start browsing. You can search by Event, Designer or Price. I also love that you can “Heart” a look or gown, then come back to it later.

You can chat with a Stylist, or shoot them an email. They are very quick, friendly and thorough. You can also select the dresses and have a stylist select the accessories for you, if that’s not your thing.

Once your package arrives, it comes with a Self-addressed and Stamped USPS envelope to drop your items back in the mail by their due date.

You don’t even have to get it dry cleaned or anything! It’s that awesome.*

What I love about RTR:

Uh, a plethora of designer dresses at my fingertips within my budget. I never wear a cocktail dress more than once, well rarely, and this allows me to don the latest runway styles I love, like Haute Hippie, Halston Heritage, D&G and See by Chloe without shoppers remorse.

The option to rent a 2nd dress of the same style for free. Just in case you aren’t sure about the size you are getting, you have the option for a back-up size.

Tips and Tricks:

Give yourself enough time to Rent The Runway, this way, you can identify the styles you like on-line, run over to your local store who carries that dress, try it on, and know how the style is going to look and how the sizes are going to fit. You can feel confident in your choice and not anxiously awaiting to see if what you ordered is going to work out.

RTR suggests you have the dress arrive a day or two before your event to ensure the dress gets there on time, but you only have 4 days to borrow until you get charged an additional amount for 8 days. If you have to order more than one dress for a series of events that will go past the four days, then do separate orders.

In my case, I needed one of the dresses for a Sunday event, which would have put me over my 4-day limit. RTR is pretty cool with allowing you to drop the dress in the mail first thing the following Monday, but keep in mind, there is a late fee if the dress is not returned on time!

I had so much fun with Rent the Runway! I couldn’t believe I had never heard about it before, and now it has completely changed my perspective on this whole 4-5 events per year social calendar thing I’ve got going on.

In fact, I have been telling all my friends about it, and one of my girlfriends actually used the service for a black tie event she just attended. She rented a BCBG dress for the Governor’s Ball in Las Vegas, and oh my gosh was she gorgeous!

If you are just as excited as I was to try out RTR, please use my link to sign-up (membership is free). I will get credits towards my next rental, and with the amount of times I’ll have to rent this year, every bit helps!

commando-page-wild-thong

BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE…a few weeks ago, I was given the most amazing package of panties at a Neiman Marcus fashion show event called commando by her look. Have you heard of them? No?! Well, take the time to check these puppies out! They are so thin and seamless, truly seamless, it feels like there is nothing there. They are, hands down, the best panties I have ever worn. The go-wild pack has 3 different styles: thong, girl short and c.y.a. They are also available through RTR, but the very cool gals at her look are offering RSMLV readers 20% off on their site. That’s a super sweet deal to go with your awesome RTR dress! Make sure you act fast because the promotional code: RSMLV expires on Friday, May 4th!

Have you Rented The Runway? What’s been your favorite dress and where did you go?

*There is a $5 insurance that covers general wear and tear of the dress. Damage that is not repairable will result in charging your credit card the full retail price of the dress.

I was not compensated for this review. Rent the Runway offered me a media discount of 30% to try it out. All words, thoughts and opinions are my own.

Huggies MomInspired Grants | Foundation

You know I don’t get too down and dirty when it comes to talking about baby products on my blog, especially diapers, but I have to tell you about a really cool event that took place right here in Las Vegas; the HUGGIES Mominspired Grant Program that gave 9 moms a $15,000 grant for their innovative product ideas that were born from real parenting moments.

I was not able to attend because my twins woke up with pink-eye that morning (yuck), but local Vegas Blogger, Lisa Cash Hanson of Mompreneur Mogal did. She was gracious enough to let me share her post with my readers. This is a great opportunity for those savvy SAHM and WAHM who are looking to create the next big thing in baby products. If you are one of the lucky ones with a truly amazing idea, Huggies has a wonderful grant opportunity ready to award the next big Mom-preneur.

Check out Lisa’s post on the HUGGIES Mominspired event, and learn more about how you can enter your idea for next year!

My Big Muscle Builders at Kidville | Family

My boys love to play. They love to play with each other, they love to play by themselves and they especially love to play with their older siblings. Being twins, though, they never really leave the house much to play with other kids. Since they have the built-in play date thing going on, I’m pretty comfortable to let them run around in the safe confines of their own home where I can regulate the occassional sibling rivalry accompanied by hitting, biting, pinching and pulling hair.

Kidville Las Vegas

When Melissa Weiner, the Mayor of Kidville, invited the VegasBloggers to explore the different classes that will be available during their summer camp, I was weary, but willing. One mommy-friend of mine mentioned that her 18-month old was already coloring. My BFF’s daughter in LA was taking art classes at 18 months, painting canvases that mirrored a novice Picasso. When I hand my boys a crayon, they eat it. And, finger paint? Forget about it! Pretty sure they would paint each other first…I can just see them now laughing and falling over at how funny it is to paint each other red, blue and green. I figured it might just be time to start socializing them a little bit and exposing them to other playmates.

Kidville Tivolli Village Las Vegas

Yes, I made the haul all the way over to Summerlin, to the beautiful Tivoli Village. I really didn’t mind because Tivoli Village alone is such a cool place with the potential of being the next Grove at Bev Hills.  And, if it meant that I could pop into one of my new favorite bakeries, Cafe Leone, for a mocha and a chocolat au pain, then I was in!

Kidville itself is an impressive facility with a mini-salon and boutique just for little tykes. The parking is also convenient as you can park underground and take the elevator up to the first floor, though you cannot bring strollers in the elevator once inside Kidville for fire hazard reasons. If you have multiples, or just bringing a bunch of kids with you, keep this in mind so you are prepared to schelp everyone up the flight of stairs to the level where the gym rooms are. This is actually OK because the staff is super friendly and very helpful and will make sure you are supported in getting your brood where they need to be.

Kidville offers a summer camp program for the younger tykes, ages 6 months to 6 years. I had the opportunity to check out the Big Muscle Builders class for ages 18-24 months. From the minute the boys walked into the room, they were immediately engaged. As usual, I thought I could take pictures, take notes and fully engage with the twinners during the class. As usual, I was wrong. Thank goodness for the very attentive staff, one in which my little guy took an instant liking to. He wouldn’t let her play or pay attention to any other kid in the room. And, she was awesome with him. (I seriously wanted to take her home!)

They played music, sang songs, walked a balance beam, jumped on a trampoline and into a bunch of foam blocks. My boys even learned how to climb up and go down a slide all on their own. There were swings, and big bouncy balls, and of course, BUBBLES!

The boys had such a great time, they were sad to leave their new friends. I personally loved how the staff was willing to jump in and help, seeing that I was on my own with two 18-month old boys. I also really liked how clean, organized and fun the rooms appear. Everything was structured, everyone was on the same page, and all the equipment was like new. Mayor Melissa runs a really great program and facility, and anyone who has ever been to Kidville agrees whole heartedly. They love bringing their kids there just because of her (and the award-winning classes, of course!).

Because Mayor Melissa is so awesome, she has offered to provide each Vegas Blogger who is writing about Camp Kidville, the opportunity to win a $25 gift card to be used towards either classes, merchandise or salon service. Even better! If you don’t win the prize, it’s cool…she is also giving 5 FREE play spaces (a $50 value) when you sign up for a Summer Camp session or Semester of classes by July 1st. Make sure to tell her Vegas Bloggers sent you!

If you are looking for a place to keep the kiddos engaged this summer, check out the summer camp program at Kidville. Remember, the 3 and up classes are drop off/pick up…think of what you can do by yourself with all that TIME! Both you and the kids will be happy campers, thanks to Kidville!
