Disney On Ice Celebrates 100 Years | Family

If you are looking for something to do with your kiddos in Las Vegas this weekend, and you are a big, huge fan of Disney, then I highly recommend seeing the Disney On Ice Celebrates 100 Years.

Sometimes, the best part about these shows is the yummy snacks! Love it all…popcorn, snow cones, cotton candy. Ah, but since I’m a participant in the Strength Center Re-Invent Yourself Challenge, I only allowed myself a bite (or 2!) of cotton candy. This time, though, I digress. The show was good. Two hours (yes, 2 hours) worth of Disney epic classics~ Princesses, Nemo, Toy Story, even the Incredibles all came out to show the Vegas crowd a good time. I was thoroughly entertained the entire time…between the costumes, lights, sets, fireworks and effects, my eyes were glued on the stage. Not to mention, you sing~a~long to every song!

The kids? Oh, right, the kids…yes, they loved it, too! They were even exposed to some classics that I had to wonder if they had even seen, like Pinocchio and the OG Princess, Snow White. When Jiminy Cricket popped up on the stage, my daughter asked, “Who’s that?”. What?!? Who doesn’t know Jiminy Cricket and his little whistle? Apparently my 8 and 6 year old, but it was OK…they enjoyed the stories and the performances. My son, who is usually done about halfway through most shows, actually sat in his seat the whole time, with his gazed fixated on the stage.

It appeared to be a sold out event at the Thomas and Mack Center. The crowds singing and clapping and dancing to the music. I heard the adults saying afterwards what a great show it was. And, true to Vegas form, the crowd went wild when the Lion King took the stage. Proud, community supporters! My daughter asked me when we were walking to the parking lot what my favorite part of the show was. I replied, “I’m not sure I could pick, I liked the whole show. What about you?”. I knew her answer before she said it, “Belle.” Always is. Then she said, “Remember when we saw Beauty and the Beast in 3D and the voice of Belle sat behind us?”. Yes, I will never forget that moment. “That was awesome.” Yes, yes it was. {holding back tears}

Cox Conserves Tips for Earth Day | Foundation

Really, we should be celebrating Earth Day every day, but it’s a nice reminder once a year to make sure we are all doing our part to help out Mother Earth. Or, we are learning new tips or how we can support already established company’s initiatives for conservation. It’s great to hear that companies are not only working to be conscience with the amount of resources they are using, like energy, water and fuel, but also seeking out innovative ways to make the resources available work for them and for us by being conscience about the bottom line. It’s a great feeling to learn the resourceful ways in which they are saving on their end, helps our pocket books! Cox Communications has shared information with me on their Cox Conserves campaign, jut in time to share it with my readers we we launch into Earth Week.

I love it when companies share their Earth friendly insights. I get stuck in my daily routine and it’s nice to have some different ideas, and inspiration injected into my old ways of thinking. Plus, conservation tips change quite frequently, with the evolution of new equipment, inventions, and concepts. It’s always great to check in with companies, like Cox Communications, who have their finger on the pulse of these actions. You can visit their Cox Conserves website for all kinds of tips, but here are some of my favorite:

  • Instead of an aerosol air freshener, douse cotton balls with oils, such as lavender, citrus and rosemary, and tuck them around the house.
  • Baking soda and lemon are natural alternatives to chemical cleaners.
  • Avoid using non-native plants that may be invasive in your area.
  • Use the hotel van instead of renting a car, or share a taxi.
  • Participate in hotel linen programs, or let the hotel know that it’s not necessary to change your sheets and towels every day.
  • When you leave your hotel room, turn off the AC/heat, lights, TV and radio. Close the drapes.
  • Make the most of natural lighting by opening the blinds.
  • Use hand-dryers rather than paper towels.
  • If you have to print a document or email, just print the text you need.

Additionally, Cox Communications has asked me to help spread the word about their conservation efforts in specific cities throughout the United States.  I love this Alternative Energy solution they have implemented in several states:

Cox actively identifies opportunities to harness solar energy and employ fuel cell technology. Overall, Cox annually prevents more than 17,400 tons of greenhouse gases from entering the environment through its alternative energy projects.

To date, the company has completed alternative energy projects in:

• Arizona
• California
• Georgia
• New Jersey
• Oregon

These programs are not only good for the environment – they’re good for the bottom line.

I, for one, appreciate the efforts Cox Communications is making to preserve our resources for now and for future generations. Learn more about the Cox Conserves program by visiting their website. You can also follow them on FaceBook, Twitter and YouTube.

This post was compensated by Cox Communications, however, all thoughts, words and opinions are my own.

Summit Ridge Day Camp | Family

How was Spring Break for you all? Fast, busy, long? Any of those descriptions ring a bell? Mine is summed up pretty much just like that! Which lead me to believe that my decision to put my kids in summer camp was the right one.

Summer Camp Las Vegas

Spring break was just long enough for me.

It’s a difficult choice to make when you are thinking about putting your kids in camp. I get that time and money, in addition to your child’s safety and entertainment value are top of the list when considering options for the summer. Since my oldest son turned 3, we’ve been putting him in camp at least 2 weeks every summer, my daughter, when she was 2. I am a total researcher, and we experimented with different camps in Las Vegas over the years, but I have to say, the one that got the best response out of my kids was the Summit Ridge Day Camp at Henderson International School.

Summit Ridge Day Camp

By now, I’m sure you’ve heard me talk over and over again about the Summit Ridge Day Camp, but truly, I am so impressed. Director, Lisa Beinstock, is super organized and passionate about providing an amazing experience for both the parents and the campers. The counselors have a strong enthusiasm to make sure the kids are having a great time,  and I have the confidence knowing my kids are in a secure, safe location, and the variety of activities keeps them interested. Everyday I picked my kids up from camp, they were exhausted, yet couldn’t wait to go back the next day! And, with a full day like that, it gives me time to get stuff done without the guilt of not entertaining them throughout the whole summer break.

Summit Ridge Camp Director, Lisa Beinstock, is popular with the campers!

My kids loved the fact that they could go swimming, make movies, put on a play, do yoga, and learn camp-style games like, Gaga (I have no idea what this is, but my kids love it!). This year though, they are going to be thrilled to learn about the new climbing wall and inflatable obstacle course. My son LOVES the TV show, Wipe-Out…this is going to be right up his ally!

In addition to the summer camp, sports enthusiasts entering 3rd grade and up have an option to attend the Sports Camp directed by former NBA basketball player, Jerome Williams, and ran by his JYD (Junk Yard Dog) Staff.

Lots of activities to play and skill sets to be learned.

To learn more about the instrumental activities directors, keep an eye out on my FaceBook page for their mini-bios and plans for summer time fun at Summit Ridge Day Camp.

This year’s camp will run from June 11th – August 3rd, and is accepting campers ages 4-12. You can still register on-line and get the Early Registration discount. A Summit Ridge Day Camp Alumni Open House will take place in May with opportunities to introduce new campers to the program.

Good times at Summit Ridge Day Camp!

If summer camp is something you are considering for your kiddos this summer, make sure to consider the Summit Ridge Day Camp before making your final decision.

Summit Ridge Day Camp is one of my social media clients. I am being compensated to promote their summer camp. All thoughts, opinions and experiences are my own. Seriously, my kids love this place!
