Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve loved the ballet. Especially, the Nevada Ballet. Growing up in Las Vegas, at the time, it was one of the very few resources for any sort of cultural experiences in Las Vegas. My mother-in-law and mother tell of going to see the ballet performances at the Las Vegas High School auditorium, obviously many moons ago. But, I recall getting dressed in my finest taffeta dresses, hair curled, high gloss patent leather shoes, and tights for our annual family trip to the Nutcracker, performed by the Nevada Ballet at Artemus Ham Hall at UNLV. I saw other performances there as well, like Cinderella and Hansel and Gretel. But, the Nutcracker was always the one I loved best. This Christmas, I took my older children for the first time. It had been while since I had seen the Nutcracker, and this time it was performed at the Paris Hotel. Still as beautiful as I remembered it to be. My son couldn’t have cared less, but my daughter loved every minute of it. From the music to the costumes, to the “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy,” she was in heaven, and so was I watching her.
Growing up in Las Vegas, a huge goal of mine has been to be a major supporter and endorser of all things culture that could be found here, and share them not only with my own kids, but with my community as well. The Nevada Ballet, located in Summerlin, will soon be calling the stage at Reynolds Hall in The Smith Center, their home, with amazing performances, live music and a venue that ranks right up there with any found in Los Angeles or New York. The culture and arts is a wonderful opportunity for all of us to be entertained, educated and to make memories with our families and friends. I encourage you to support in some way, any way-large or small- what is happening right here in our hometown with the building of The Smith Center, Discovery Children’s Museum and Symphony Park in Downtown Las Vegas.
I have the honor to be present on the Red Carpet for the Nevada Ballet’s Annual Black and White Ball Fundraiser, sponsored by Cartier, happening at the Aria Las Vegas on Saturday night. Special celebrity guests, and honoree, Eva Longoria, will be on sight to help raise funds and awareness for the Nevada Ballet.
I’m a little nervous…this is something I’ve been wanting to do my whole life growing up here, to support and be apart of the arts and cultural programs in Las Vegas…and here is my chance! Secret though…I get so celeb-shy. I’m always intimidated by their presence, and feel like I have nothing cool to say. So help me out! What questions would you ask some of these celebs who will be walking the red carpet Saturday night?
- Honoree Eva Longoria and her guest Eduardo Cruz
- Holly Madison
- KLUC Radio Host Chet Buchanan
- Susan Anton
- Leigh Zimmerman
- UFC Fighter Frank Mir
- Headliner Matt Goss
- Producer Robin Antin
