Here’s another great family movie for Movie Night, Delhi Safari, available today, April 16th, on Blu-Ray and DVD.
Stella+Oliver was asked to receive a copy of the film and review it. Oliver jumped at the opportunity. As an avid animal lover, and especially one who enjoys films about animals in the wild, Delhi Safari was right up his ally. I loved it because it featured some of my favorite actors as Voice Talent: Jane Lynch (TV’S Glee, Wreck-It Ralph), Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future, Pirahna 3D, Snowmen), Vanessa Williams (TV’s 666 Park Avenue, TV’s Desperate Housewives, TV’s Ugly Betty), Cary Elwes (No Strings Attached, Saw 3D: The Final Chapter), Brad Garrett (Hoodwinked Too!, Tangled, Night at the Museum films), Jason Alexander (HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm, Seinfeld).
Here’s the synopsis of the story:
A wacky pack of mismatched animals takes on the human race as they travel to the big city to protest the destruction of their jungle. How can a leopard cub and his mother, a peace-loving bear, a mischievous monkey, and a wisecracking parrot present their ideas to a bunch of humans? You’ll find out in this hilarious and heart-warming adventure that will have you cheering at the end.
And, here’s what Oliver had to say:
This movie is basically about a group of animals who set out to help humanity from taking their homes away. Trust that once you watch this story, you will find a special place in your heart for the forest the animals live in. I recommend this movie because it will teach your kids to never give up. If your kids love adventures and animals, this is something that will have them interested for like 2 hours.
OK, well, at least he gets we sometimes use movies as way to keep our little ones entertained for a few hours. I appreciate a movie that has an underlying theme and introduces our children to topics that we don’t discuss every single day…like conservation of both the planet and the creatures who live here. Check out the trailer to decide if it’s a good fit for your family:

This past weekend my mom and I took my daughter (7), twins (2), and nephew (5) to ride Thomas the Train and enjoy the fun day organized at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Boulder City. It was a great time, and all ages really enjoyed it. Having never been before, I wanted to share a few tips with you on how to best enjoy your day. There is one more weekend left for the Day Out with Thomas: The Go-Go Thomas Tour 2013.
RSMLV Tips:
Buy your tickets in advance. Try on-line first because the time slots do sell out.
Get there at least 45-minutes to an hour early. The website suggests an hour before train departure time. You need to give yourself enough time to park, pick up or buy tickets, gather the troops and line up for the train ride.
Parking is a bit of a challenge. There is a handicapped lot available right near the entrance. Everyone else will need to park down the street, and up a rather large hill. A shuttle is provided for transportation, so plan accordingly.
Boulder City is a small town with a main highway that drives right through the middle, so expect some traffic, especially on the weekend. There are not many places to make U-turns, so be on the look out for Yucca Street. There is not a light there, but it is the main street before reaching the A&W.
If you want to sit in an outdoor train car, be sure to line up as early as possible.
Make sure to plan time to enjoy all the exhibits, activities and the Imagination Station provided.
The kids had a great time. They were definitely the perfect age for this event, though a bit testy during the actual train ride. We tried to grab a seat on one of the outdoor cars, but they filled up quickly. Instead, we ended up inside one of the restored train cars, with two bench seats facing each other. This actually worked out better for us in hindsight.
Bring some snacks or something to keep the little ones busy while you wait on the train for the ride to start. During the train ride, a conductor will come by to bring the kids a packet to gain their Jr. Engineer certificate. Take the papers around to get stamped at each “station” and the kids will get a Thomas the Train souvenir.
My daughter, 7, was a tad too old to really enjoy much. She did have fun on the obstacle course, and she participated in the Imagination Station doing arts and crafts. Mostly, she was a great help with the little guys who wanted to be everywhere at the same time!
My biggest complaint was the visit with Sir Topham Hatt. My twins waited anxiously in line for their turn, and as luck would have it, when they were next, Sir Topham had to take a 15-minute break. As an adult, I completely understand and empathize with Sir Topham wanting his 15-minute break, however, try explaining that to 2 two-year olds who couldn’t wait to meet him. I didn’t have 15-minutes to wait for him to come back, and my boys had a total meltdown that only a Popsicle from the ice cream truck could cure. As a suggestion, if the person moderating Sir Topham’s breaks would just announce it like 5-7 minutes prior to his actual break time, or cut off the line at a certain point, that would give parents or care takers the opportunity to plan so time is not wasted and melt downs do not occur. Just something to be aware of if a photo with Sir Topham Hatt is high on your priority list.
Other than that, the trip was successful and the Day Out with Thomas was a fun memory for all of us! It is worth the trip for some family fun this weekend.
Talk about women who rock! Lisa Cash Hanson is pretty much a RockStar. Maybe you can tell from her looks, or by the way she talks, but she once was a celebrity impersonator in Las Vegas and performed all over the world portraying the likes of Cher, Marilyn Monroe, Shania Twain & more. I met Lisa a little over a year ago through our Vegas Bloggers network. She is a mom of a sweet little girl, and an amazing entrepreneur with a business savvy like no other. What else makes Lisa a Vegas Woman Who Rocks? She is not stingy with what she has learned along the way. Always willing and eager to help new bloggers and other small business owners just getting their start, Lisa is one of those women who is in sincere in her efforts to support other women. RSMLV: How long have you lived in Las Vegas?
LCH: Seventeen years. I moved here from the Midwest, and I knew I wanted to be on stage. As you mentioned, I got my chance to perform as a celebrity impersonator on the Las Vegas Strip. I couldn’t pass it up! It was a great experience, but after I met my husband, I knew I wanted to have a baby. I didn’t want to be on the road traveling all the time; I wanted to be home to raise her. I decided to start blogging and found I was able to contribute to our family income that way. After a few years, I was featured in Yahoo and Business Insider. This opened more doors for me, and I started several small businesses to teach bloggers how to do what I did in a short period of time. I even wrote an e-book, Get Famous: The Greatest Resource For Mom Bloggers On The Planet.
RSMLV: Amazing. So, let’s talk about the SnuggWugg® and the Huggies Mom Inspired Grant. How did all of that come about?
LCH: Like most women, we are problem solvers. When I became a first time mom there were suddenly lots of problems. I have a very active baby who loves to kick me and roll around when changing her. After I took a kick to the face one day I said, “That’s it; there has to be a better way.”.
I looked for a product and there was nothing to fill my need. It was then I thought, “Why don’t I just fill the need?”.
Shortly after I created a prototype and pitched it to the Huggies Mom Inspired Grant program. I was chosen over 900 other applicants and won $15,000 seed money to launch the product. We are currently meeting with large retailers for the future of SnuggWugg®.
RSMLV: That is such an exciting and inspirational story. I love the functionality of the SnuggWugg®. What are some of your favorite features?
LCH: My favorite feature is that it’s portable, and there is also a smart phone option. I believe it’s very innovative, and it’s not just for watching movies, although you can. These can be mini “teachable moments” by incorporating music, shapes, or language. Just another moment to share something fun and interesting with your baby.
RSMLV: Besides your daughter, of course, what are some of your achievements you are most proud of?
LCH: I’ve just been listed number one in the Top 50 Mompreneur Blogs To follow, featured in The Wall Street Journal, Busines Insider, Huggies Blog, Las Vegas Review Journal, Las Vegas Sun, The Summerlin View, and I”ve won multiple awards for my blog, in addition to the 2012 Huggies Mom Inspired Grant.
RSMLV: Wow! You sound busy! I, for one, am very happy to know you. You have shared so much with me to help me with my own goals, and I appreciate that. What are some of the other ways you like to give back to the community in addition to helping other women succeed?
LCH: I support World Vision. I also give to our church which gives to missions all over the world to feed, clothe and care for the needy.
RSMLV:I love this video of you talking about the SnuggWugg®. When will it be available to purchase? I have some baby showers coming up, and that would be an awesome gift!
LCH: We are hoping to launch the SnuggWugg® by May of 2013. But the best way to stay up to date is to subscribe to our newsletter on SnuggWugg®.com not only will you be among the first to find out where you can get yours but you’ll be automatically registered for a chance to win one FREE. I think you are right; it would make an awesome baby shower gift!
So exciting to know this Vegas Woman Who Rocks! Thank you, Lisa!
