Tea at the Mandarin Oriental Las Vegas

If you have been following me since the beginning, you will know my affection for high tea. It has always been a tradition, so to speak, with my mom and sister. It was the compromise between my husband and I when we started dating…I would take up fishing and drinking scotch, as long as he took me to tea when asked. I have begun introducing it to my children at an early age as well, and not only is a nice mother-daughter time, my son also enjoys going to tea.

High tea in Las Vegas is a rarity. Some of the more luxury hotels will host tea, but it is not as easy to find anymore. When you do, the window to participate is quite small and often inconvenient, say 2-3 hours on a late Saturday afternoon. A few weeks ago, I convinced my husband to take me on a Sunday Date Day. We needed the break from our regular Sunday chaos and some serious adult time. At the time, I knew very little about the Tea Lounge at the Mandarin Oriental, however, I figured if tea was not being served we could always have a late afternoon cocktail at the Mandarin Bar on the 23rd floor, another favorite spot of mine.

Lucky me and much to my surprise, the Tea Lounge serves Afternoon Tea daily, from 2-5pm. If you have not ventured into or stayed at the Mandarin Oriental, I highly recommend doing so during your next visit to Las Vegas. The stylish and sleek look of the hotel adds a nice sophistication to the Las Vegas Strip, as well as the City Center campus where Crystals Las Vegas, Aria Las Vegas and Vdara are located.

Mandarin Oriental Las Vegas

Though the contemporary look may seem a bit unconventional for Afternoon Tea, it was actually quite lovely. The room itself overlooks the Las Vegas Strip with floor to ceiling windows. Each space is designated with comfortable chairs or booth seating. The tables are small, providing a more intimate setting for you and your guests. Because of this, the tea pastries, scones and sandwiches are served on a free-standing tray displaying the goodies. Tea selection includes some of the finest teas from around the world. There is also the blooming teas which lends to a picturesque kettle.

I prefer to add a glass of champagne with my tea, and of course the selection is fabulous. I chose to the Veuve Cliquot. The price points are fair, and there is also a Kid’s Afternoon Tea Menu complete with PB&J and cupcakes. Elegant, yet zen-like, it is a perfect place to escape from the everyday or the excitement from the Strip.

RSMLV Tips

  • Reservations are suggested as the Tea Lounge tends to fill up quickly depending on the business of the hotel and season.
  • There are gluten-free and vegan options available, just check with your server.

Beauty, skin care

It’s been 10-days since I started my challenge with the Algenist Concentrated Reconstructing Serum, and I have to say, I really like it.

A quick photo of me before starting my 10-day challenge. The girl to the right is my cute sister, and my beauty guru. She has been an aesthetician for over 10 years, and I always check-in with her before I invest in products. She was also intrigued by the new Algenist line and was anxious to see my results.

Algenist Challenge

Here’s what I have been doing different for the last 10-days:

  • Started my challenge with the Bright Skin Facial at the Costa del Sur Spa.
  • Took a 3-day relaxation trip with my RockStar husband where we slept…a ton.
  • Consistently taking my daily regimin of vitamins and supplements.
  • Using either my Clarisonic or my Eminence Organics Strawberry Rhubarb Dermafoliant once daily.
  • Juicing twice a day.
  • Yoga once a week.
  • Remembering to drink water as much as possible.
  • Implementing the Algenist Concentrated Reconstructing Serum into my skin care routine.

Here’s what I noticed:

  • My skin looks brighter.
  • My skin feels lighter and cleaner.
  • That nasty, deep wrinkle right above my left eyebrow is less visibile.
  • The ugly crow feet that surround both eyes are also less visible.
  • The bags under my eyes are not as deep and dark as before.

Not to mention, I’ve received many compliments about my skin over the last few weeks, and have been carded at least 2 times! I am also wearing considerably less make-up than before. A little concealor and a light powder finish around my eyes, mascara and brow touch-ups with my favorite Tom Ford Beauty products, and I’m ready to go. It’s not the wrinkle eraser that Botox will provide, but for now, I’m very pleased with results. I have also realized that I do not take enough photos of myself. I did my best using my iPhone, but you have to trust me on this one!

So, tell me…did you take on the 10-Day Algenist Challenge? Tell me in the comments below and enter for your chance to win a full-sized bottle of the Algenist Concentrated Reconstructing Serum valued at $99.00.

Top 3 Spring Trends to Rock

It was just starting to get warmer, and I was thinking about my Spring wardrobe…when *BOOM* cold front. Ahh…well, a girl can still day dream about Spring fashion because as it’s known in this desert city, Spring could be here next week! After checking out some of my favorite fashion bloggers and designers, I have finally decided on my Top 3 Spring Trends I am going to rock this season.

Leather

I live in Vegas…I rock the leather. I really love the look of leather because it can be so versatile. Leggings, shorts, mini skirts…you name it, I own them. Especially for Spring 2013, I am loving the metallics, pleats and colors of leather this season. Dresses are pretty rad, but my favorite fashion challenge is to find tops and shoes with the same leather bottom that change up my look from one event to the next. For example, to a Nevada Ballet Rubies Society event, black leather mini skirt, Vince cream silk blouse and red pumps. To the Lady Gaga concert, same black leather mini, white Top Shop t-shirt, BCBG red rabbit fur shrug and black Gucci booties. Leather. Is. Awesome. I love this look. That girl is not me.

Sunglasses

When it comes to sunglasses, I have to admit, I’m a stickler for the classics. For the last two years I rocked the classic Wayfarer Ray Bans in black. Of course, I like to add my own personal style, so I bought the limited edition with the screen print image of Murano hand-blown glass balls on the inside of my frames. But, alas, those were like, so two years ago. Recently, I was gifted a pair of Daggerwing ivi vision sunglasses. Love them! The style was perfect for my heart-shaped face, and arched brow line. I was not familiar with the brand, but it didn’t matter. They are light-weight and do not slide down my nose. I get a ton of compliments when I wear them, and they have now become my favorite sunglasses. I’m looking to buy the Daggerwing in the Aqua fade/ Rose gradient for my Spring/Summer look.

Dr. Martens

Yeah, you read that right. When I was in college, Dr. Martens were my absolute favorite shoes. I had the shoes, the boots and the Mary Janes. Yeah, I rocked the look. I am hoping to bring them back with a style vengeance! I haven’t decided the exact look but am thinking along the lines of a classic black boot with shorts or a mini skirt, and casual, light-weight, sweater top. Or I might throw in one of those ironic t-shirts and a cardigan like I used to wear, just for fun. My high school reunion is coming up this year…Spring fashion throw back to the ’90’s.

Hmmm…with all this talk about mini skirts and shorts, I better start looking into my Spring fitness fashion!

What trends are you going to rock this Spring season? What do you think about mine?
