After my boys turned 2, I decided it was time to brave the outside world. As my friends like to say, “Go a bit outside your comfort zone,” which, when you are a mother of multiples, that means getting all of you dressed and taking that first giant leap of faith by walking out the front door. For almost a year, people were surprised I had more kids than just my two older children!

I reached out to Melissa Weiner, Mayor of Kidville Las Vegas, to find out which class she would suggest for my rowdy 2 year old boys. Without hesitation she told me about the Run, Wiggle, Paint and Giggle class. Though the class is technically for children ages 18-months to 2 years, the boys were still at the right age for the class.

What I personally loved about that class is the structure it gave to my boys. They are full of energy, to put it mildly, and need to be constantly engaged in something new. Run, Wiggle, Paint, and Giggle offers just that type of thing. Ran much like a pre-school class, the first 15 minutes are spent with the children getting acclimated to their surroundings by taking off their shoes, saying Hi to their friends, and exploring the fun stations at the toddler sized tables. The next 15 minutes are spent in circle time, reading stories and singing songs. The last songs being a movement song that gets the children’s hands in the air and fingers ready to paint. Back to the tables they go for the arts and craft segment of the class.

The last 15-minutes is personally, my favorite, which includes one of the musicians from the Rockin’ Railroad coming into the class to play the guitar and sing songs with the kids. I think this was the twins’ favorite part, too, as they earned quite a reputation as the dancers and singers of the group.

Those 15-minute increments lasted just long enough that when the boys’ attention was about to fade, we moved onto the next activity. And, the activities varied just enough to keep them interested in doing something new. I really can’t say enough about Kidville Las Vegas…the classes, the space and the people. We LOVE it!

I want you to love it, too! Today through February 13, 2013, I am apart of a Kidville Las Vegas Give Away of a Half Semester and Silver Membership. Yes. Yes, I do. Every Thursday, I get my two year old twins up (OK, they get me up), diapers changed, dressed, fed and out the door by 9am just so I can make in time for our 10am Rockin’ Railroad class at Kidville Las Vegas at Tivoli Village. On most Thursdays at that time, the traffic is non-existent. I hop on the 215 West to the I-15 North to the 95 North to the Summerlin exit. It takes roughly 30-35 minutes from my home in Henderson without stopping for coffee. Locals, I’m sure, are reading this, scratching their heads and saying, “Why?”. In my opinion, having 4 kids and all, and experiencing the many similar classes in my area, I have found Kidville to be the best place to go with your kids for Mommy and Me play dates and classes in Las Vegas.

Tivoli Village Las Vegas Playground

I think of it as a special day I get to spend with my boys. An excursion, if you will, to the other side of town; a day trip. We have our routine in place every Thursday. Get up, get dressed, make breakfast, Mom juices and makes a coffee to-go. Sometimes one of the grandmas will join us, and we make a day out of it. Exploring Summerlin and finding new places to eat lunch. If the weather is nice, we head over to the fun little park at Tivoli Village. Other times, Daddy meets us for lunch on his way into work. It’s hard for me to leave my little bubble in Henderson, but on Thursdays, it’s a change of perspective. Thursday is adventure day!

Nielson's Custard Las Vegas

That’s not the only reason I love Kidville. This is my second semester with the Kidville family. The staff is crazy friendly and talented. Of course, it goes without saying that Mayor Melissa just rocks the house. I was so impressed with the first semester of taking the boys to the Run, Wiggle, Paint and Giggle class, that I went ahead and signed them up for the Rockin’ Railroad class for their second semester.

Here are my Top 5 Reasons to love the Rockin’ Railroad:

1. The classes are well thought out and structured. There is something happening every 10-12 minutes to keep my children engaged. Whether it’s a visit to Grandma’s House, a trip to the musical instrument store, storybook time, or bubbles, my boys are fully participating in everything that’s going on.

2. My kids love to dance. Love it. And, on the Rockin’ Railroad, they play a few children’s favorites while sprinkling in some fun songs even moms and dads know.

3. Real musicians, no canned music. Nuh-huh, nope, not here. There is a live band, a guitarist and singers on the Rockin’ Railroad. This also catches my twins attention as they love listening to the real sounds and watching the instruments being played because…

4. They also love to play musical instruments. Each week, the kids in the class get to experiment with a new sound and a new instrument.

5. Saving the best for last…I actually enjoy it. I look forward to Thursdays because I get to sing and dance with my kids, and watch them have an amazing time as they learn new things.

Give-Away, Kidville, summer camp

My boys love to play. They love to play with each other, they love to play by themselves and they especially love to play with their older siblings. Being twins, though, they never really leave the house much to play with other kids. Since they have the built-in play date thing going on, I’m pretty comfortable to let them run around in the safe confines of their own home where I can regulate the occassional sibling rivalry accompanied by hitting, biting, pinching and pulling hair.

Kidville Las Vegas

When Melissa Weiner, the Mayor of Kidville, invited the VegasBloggers to explore the different classes that will be available during their summer camp, I was weary, but willing. One mommy-friend of mine mentioned that her 18-month old was already coloring. My BFF’s daughter in LA was taking art classes at 18 months, painting canvases that mirrored a novice Picasso. When I hand my boys a crayon, they eat it. And, finger paint? Forget about it! Pretty sure they would paint each other first…I can just see them now laughing and falling over at how funny it is to paint each other red, blue and green. I figured it might just be time to start socializing them a little bit and exposing them to other playmates.

Kidville Tivolli Village Las Vegas

Yes, I made the haul all the way over to Summerlin, to the beautiful Tivoli Village. I really didn’t mind because Tivoli Village alone is such a cool place with the potential of being the next Grove at Bev Hills.  And, if it meant that I could pop into one of my new favorite bakeries, Cafe Leone, for a mocha and a chocolat au pain, then I was in!

Kidville itself is an impressive facility with a mini-salon and boutique just for little tykes. The parking is also convenient as you can park underground and take the elevator up to the first floor, though you cannot bring strollers in the elevator once inside Kidville for fire hazard reasons. If you have multiples, or just bringing a bunch of kids with you, keep this in mind so you are prepared to schelp everyone up the flight of stairs to the level where the gym rooms are. This is actually OK because the staff is super friendly and very helpful and will make sure you are supported in getting your brood where they need to be.

Kidville offers a summer camp program for the younger tykes, ages 6 months to 6 years. I had the opportunity to check out the Big Muscle Builders class for ages 18-24 months. From the minute the boys walked into the room, they were immediately engaged. As usual, I thought I could take pictures, take notes and fully engage with the twinners during the class. As usual, I was wrong. Thank goodness for the very attentive staff, one in which my little guy took an instant liking to. He wouldn’t let her play or pay attention to any other kid in the room. And, she was awesome with him. (I seriously wanted to take her home!)

They played music, sang songs, walked a balance beam, jumped on a trampoline and into a bunch of foam blocks. My boys even learned how to climb up and go down a slide all on their own. There were swings, and big bouncy balls, and of course, BUBBLES!

The boys had such a great time, they were sad to leave their new friends. I personally loved how the staff was willing to jump in and help, seeing that I was on my own with two 18-month old boys. I also really liked how clean, organized and fun the rooms appear. Everything was structured, everyone was on the same page, and all the equipment was like new. Mayor Melissa runs a really great program and facility, and anyone who has ever been to Kidville agrees whole heartedly. They love bringing their kids there just because of her (and the award-winning classes, of course!).

Because Mayor Melissa is so awesome, she has offered to provide each Vegas Blogger who is writing about Camp Kidville, the opportunity to win a $25 gift card to be used towards either classes, merchandise or salon service. Even better! If you don’t win the prize, it’s cool…she is also giving 5 FREE play spaces (a $50 value) when you sign up for a Summer Camp session or Semester of classes by July 1st. Make sure to tell her Vegas Bloggers sent you!

If you are looking for a place to keep the kiddos engaged this summer, check out the summer camp program at Kidville. Remember, the 3 and up classes are drop off/pick up…think of what you can do by yourself with all that TIME! Both you and the kids will be happy campers, thanks to Kidville!
